The Ken Garff Automotive Group is a top 15 dealership, spans over 60 individual showrooms and although the story of Ken Garff began in earnest in Utah, today, the company’s reach also spans California, Iowa, Texas, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, and Hawaii.

VINView sat down and spoke with two members of the Ken Garff Hyundai in Southtowne team about their experiences in the car industry and the impact VINView has had on their lives: Sales Manager Jolyn Robbins and Sales Rep Jimmy Vasquez.

“When our salespeople sit down at their desk and they’re showing a customer where the cars are, and they pull up VINView on our system, they can really see where the car’s at. And it just makes it all the more real. It makes their dream come true.”

In 2021, the dealership group sold almost 60,000 new cars alone, and to help facilitate the needs of a group this large, those working at the Sandy, Utah, dealership rely heavily upon VinVIEW for the ETAs they need to make their jobs easier and their customers happier.

Then and Now, with VINView

Jolyn Robbins has been in the industry since the 90s and remembers the days before the internet and modern technology. Back then, all she and her colleagues could do was “tell the customer, ‘The car will be here in a few months. We’ll let you know when it comes.’” And that was it.

Back then, car deliveries were a guessing and waiting game: “The best notice we had is if we knew somebody up at the railhead. They would maybe tell us when the car arrived at the railhead. But then we still had to wait for a truck to go get it, to bring it to us, and that was a big deal because you just had to sit and wait.”

Today, sales rep Jimmy Vasquez says that VINView is a huge part of his daily routine. After he’s gotten into the office and had his coffee, he’ll reach out to customers, and with VINView on his side, he can see “if any ETAs have been moved around, if anything’s been cleared from port, inspected, things like that.”

From there, he can follow up with customers about the status of their vehicles.

Paving the Way with Real-Time Updates

With the 1,000s of vehicles moving around within the greater Ken Garff group, these ETAs prove to be tremendously useful. Jolyn has quickly realized how important the real-time information provided by VINView is to customers.

“That’s a huge help for the customer and for us as employees to keep track of those and keep them just up to date. They want to be informed as if their vehicle is going to be here a little early so they can get their finances arranged, things like that, co-signers, money down. So it’s definitely a huge help for us.”

“Honestly, [VINView is] one of the most used tools in my bag that I would say that helps me really stay up to date with the customers. Because after COVID, it’s been a lot, it’s been a little hectic trying to sell a vehicle that’s not actually here. So that helps us.”
